As the year comes to a close, something inside us begins to shift. Even when the world is busy with loud celebrations, we can feel a quiet movement beneath the surface, a gentle awareness that a chapter is reaching its natural end. It is simply part of being human.
We hear this moment when the noise settles and we finally meet ourselves again. The body feels it first. A small pull toward honesty and presence, an invitation to notice what has actually lived in us throughout the year.
The Myth of the New Beginning
We often imagine that the new year begins by magic. A clean date on the calendar, a sense of renewal, a sudden burst of motivation. Yet beginnings grow stronger when we take a moment to acknowledge what is ending. When we do, something inside relaxes. Space opens. And in that space, joy, clarity, and direction return.
Endings Create Beginnings
Across cultures, people gather at the turning of seasons and at the start of a new year. These shared moments make transitions easier to digest. When we name an ending, the body responds. It softens its grip on what is over and welcomes the freshness that follows. This simple act prepares us for what comes next with more presence and more breath.
The Year Lives in the Body
The past year doesn’t vanish the moment the clock reaches midnight. It lives in us: in emotions that were never spoken, in the tiredness we carried quietly. The body holds everything. And New Year’s Eve is a natural moment to offer it a pause, a breath, and a gentle release.
A Simple Closing
If you want to feel this shift in a small, grounded way, try standing still for a moment. Feel your feet on the floor. Place a hand on your chest. Name three things that feel complete for you this year. Not solved, just complete. Take one slow breath for each and let the breath soften your hold. Notice how your body responds. Even this simple gesture brings you closer to yourself.
One Step Further
If you want to go deeper, my experience is that the most powerful transitions happen in community.
For the last years we’ve been hosting a Playfight New Year retreat, and it has become one of my favourite moments of the year. It’s warm, it’s honest, it’s full of movement and connection. We mix ritual with Playfight, and something powerful happens when people release the year not just with thoughts but with their whole being.
There's a spark in the room. People rediscover their strength. They rediscover tenderness. They laugh, they breathe, they rest, they play. And when midnight comes, it feels less like a countdown and more like crossing a threshold together. Not alone, not pretending, but alive.
If you’re longing for a new year that starts from a deeper place, this is the space I would love to share with you.
When Something Ends, Life Can Move Again
Endingsfree energy. They make room for direction, purpose, and joy. They help us step into the next year with more trust and more breath. This is why we gather. To let go of what is complete and welcome what wants to grow. With presence. With movement. With play.
There are still a few open spots for the New Year Immersion.
I would be happy to welcome you there.
